Shining Light on Women with Bravery and Kindness

March is one of our favorite months at Chasing Brighter because it’s all about celebrating women! Women who inspire, uplift, and show us what’s possible when we live with courage, kindness, and resilience. In this episode, we’re highlighting some of the women who’ve had a profound impact on our lives—women who break barriers, challenge norms, and remind us of our strength.

From authors to activists, first ladies to meditation teachers, we’re diving into their journeys, the lessons they teach, and how we can carry their wisdom forward.

The Power of Women’s History Month

Before we get into our favorite inspirational women, let’s take a moment to recognize the significance of Women’s History Month. It started in 1978 as a week-long celebration in Sonoma, California, before gaining national recognition in 1980. By 1987, Congress designated March as Women’s History Month, giving us the opportunity to reflect on the contributions of incredible women past and present.

Tara Brach: The Power of Radical Acceptance

One of our top inspirations is Tara Brach, a psychologist, meditation teacher, and author. She’s known for blending Western psychology with Eastern mindfulness, helping us navigate life with self-compassion. Her book Radical Acceptance is a must-read, and we’re diving into it for our March book club (get your copy before March 27th!).

Tara teaches us to stop waging war against ourselves and instead embrace love, kindness, and healing. Her RAIN method—Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture—is a simple yet powerful tool to process emotions. If you loved our Self-Compassion episode from Season 1, you’ll definitely connect with her work.

Michelle Obama: When They Go Low, We Go High

There’s no denying that Michelle Obama is a force of nature. From her time as First Lady to her ongoing advocacy for education, health, and equal opportunities, she continues to lead with grace and wisdom.

Her memoir Becoming is one of our favorite books—it’s an honest look at her journey, struggles, and triumphs. And if you’re looking for a dose of hope and guidance, The Light We Carry is a must-read in today’s uncertain world.

What we love most? Her commitment to lifting other women as she rises. Her famous quote, “When they go low, we go high,” is a mantra we all need in our lives.

Diary of an Honest Mom: Breaking Motherhood Myths

Motherhood is messy, wonderful, exhausting, and joyful—all at the same time. That’s why we love Libby Ward, aka Diary of an Honest Mom. She openly shares the struggles of parenting, mental health, and breaking generational cycles.

Her work gives permission for moms to say, “This is hard, but I love my kids.” And that’s okay! If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, guilty, or like you’re failing—Libby reminds us we are not alone.

Elizabeth Gilbert: Embracing Creativity & Transformation

You can’t talk about self-discovery without mentioning Elizabeth Gilbert, the woman who inspired a whole generation with Eat, Pray, Love. Her journey from burnout to self-discovery was groundbreaking, and she continues to inspire with books like Big Magic, which explores creativity and fear.

Her work reminds us that transformation is always possible. Whether you’re making a career change, finding your passion, or simply trying to live more boldly—Liz’s wisdom is a guiding light.

The Skimm: Women-Led Journalism with Impact

We also have to shout out The Skimm, a daily newsletter making news digestible, engaging, and relevant for women. Founded by two former NBC producers, The Skimm goes beyond reporting—it’s a platform for advocacy.

When Roe v. Wade was overturned, they took action, buying the domain reproductiverights.com to ensure women could still access vital health information. That’s the kind of leadership and impact we love to see!

Women Who Inspire Us Every Day

Of course, the ultimate inspiration in our lives? Our mom. 💕 She’ll be joining us in May for a special episode, so stay tuned! In the meantime, we’d love to hear from YOU—who are the women who inspire you most?

Let’s keep celebrating, supporting, and lifting each other up. Because when women shine, the world gets brighter. ✨
