What if the biggest barrier between you and confidence isn’t skill, but the story you tell yourself?
In our latest Chasing Brighter episode, we explore how self-talk shapes reality—and how you can rewrite yours to unlock what we call the confidence code.
Why Our Inner Critic is So Loud
Research shows the average person has 60,000 thoughts a day, and most are repetitive—many negative. These loops quietly erode our confidence, leading us to hesitate, dismiss compliments, or second-guess decisions.
For Jessica, it showed up in body image and venting in her marriage. For Kelly, it was spirals of anxiety in work stress. Both realized: these weren’t facts, they were scripts.
4 Tools to Rewrite Your Script
- Name the Voice → Label the thought (“That’s my perfectionist talking”) to create distance.
- Fact or Fear? → Ask: Is this true, or is this my fear?
- Flip the Script → Replace criticism with empowering language (“I only had 20 minutes, but I showed up for myself”).
- Confidence Anchors → Keep a “victory list” of past wins, strengths, or notes of encouragement for hard days.
Practicing “Friend Talk”
One of the simplest mindset shifts? Speak to yourself like you would a friend—kind, compassionate, honest. As we shared in our episode on radical acceptance, treating yourself with gentleness is the foundation for growth.
Reflection Prompt
This week, write down one negative story you tell yourself. Ask: Where did it come from? Is it true? What evidence challenges it? Then rewrite it into a more empowering thought—and repeat it daily.
Remember: rewriting your inner dialogue doesn’t mean silencing all doubt. It means creating a new relationship with yourself—one rooted in confidence and compassion.
